Administrative Director's Invitation

Dear Members & Guests -

The last time we were on Cape Cod was in 1998.  Since that meeting 13 years ago, I have been waiting for an opportunity to return to the Cape.  I think you will agree that it has been worth the wait.

Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club is one of those beautiful properties that has kept its original architecture but added new space to accommodate a variety of groups.  Samuel Nickerson and his wife Matilda built their summer residence in 1890 here in Brewster, which included Fieldstone Hall, a carriage house, a stone tower and a private game preserve.  In 1906, Fieldstone Hall burned to the ground and 6 years later the new Mansion was completed, as you see it today – setback from the road, standing majestically, admired by all those who pass by.  Ocean Edge has just completed the new Mansion Ballroom, which has brought new space to Ocean Edge and thus has allowed us to come together once again for our New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons Annual Meeting.

The functions that I have planned for you will take you all over the Ocean Edge property, beginning with the Mansion Ballroom Terrace on Friday night for our Welcome Reception.  From the Ballroom Terrace, you will be able to look out at Cape Cod Bay, Provincetown and the tip of Cape Cod.  We will be in the Carriage House in the Addie Nickerson Room for our Friday Night Dinner Buffet.  There is also a terrace attached to the Addie Nickerson Room, so you can dine outside if you wish, again looking out at Cape Cod Bay.  Just lovely.

Saturday afternoon will have you either playing golf (a Nicklaus designed course), swimming in the pool (inside or outside), flying kites on the Front Lawn, biking on the Cape Cod Rail Trail Bike Path (just up the road, about 5 minutes), or taking a walk on the beach.  Beach shoes are required for your beach walk.  At high tide, there is beautiful white sand that comes down to the water from the dunes.  At low tide, there are stones to cross over to get to the extensive sand bar.  Because this beach is part of the National Seaside Preservation, the stones cannot be moved or removed from the beach.  There is also tennis, a fitness center, a spa, shopping in the area, and lots of places to eat!

At the end of the day on Saturday, we will again meet at the Mansion Ballroom Terrace for a Cocktail Reception.  Enough time has been planned for a walk down to the beach (with your cocktail in hand if you like) to enjoy the beautiful sunset.  When you return from your beach walk, we will gather in the Bay Pines Pavilion for our Cape Cod Family Dinner.  The dress is casual smart resort wear.  Be summery.  Be casual.  Be comfortable.  Our space closes at 10:00PM (per the local zoning ordinance), but for those who would like to stay and visit, the Mansion Ballroom Terrace is available – oversized lounge chairs, soft cushions, comfortable conversations.  Just perfect.

We hope that you will come to the Cape this June 3rd - 5th for a great weekend with friends and colleagues.  On behalf of our President, Dr. John M.Castle, we look forward to having you join us for the 52nd Annual Meeting of the New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

Sincerely,
