About the NESPRS

aboutThe New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Inc., is one of the oldest regional plastic surgery societies.

It was organized by four forward-thinking plastic surgeons, Drs. Bradford Cannon, Samuel Climo, and Richard P. Sexton, headed by Dr. Radford C. Tanzer, who would go on to become a pioneer in ear reconstruction.

The four first met in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1959; and all believed that bringing plastic surgeons together from the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont would provide the opportunity to promote educational and research activities, improve the rapport among colleagues, and increase scientific knowledge.

Today this Society continues to maintain those very same standards, each year improving on its own goals.  Still keeping with the Founders’ request, the Annual Meeting is held around the first weekend in June and always within one of the six New England states.  The Annual Meeting allows members and guests the opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful New England area and its many wonderful hotels and resorts and is always held over a weekend, which does not impact practices or the work week.

What distinguishes the New England Society from other regional societies is the family-oriented aspect of the Annual Meeting; many spouses and children attend year after year.  Members are encouraged to bring their family and friends with them to the meetings for a weekend full of education, good food, relaxing conversation, and usually a lot of golf and recreation.
